Penn State Lehigh Valley presents Plastic Paradise

April 27, 1pm
PSU Lehigh Valley, Room 135
Followed by post-film discussion

Penn State Lehigh Valley will host a poster contest featuring ways to green the campus on Monday, April 27, as one of the events scheduled to celebrate Earth Day. Environmental Science students will showcase their green tips on posters in room 135 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Everyone on campus will be invited to vote for their favorite poster.

After voting is complete, the film Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch will be shown from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. A post-film discussion will then be held.

Plastic Paradise is an independent film directed and produced by Angela Sun, an American journalist, sportscaster, and documentary filmmaker. In the film, Sun travels to remote Midway Atoll to examine the enormous collection of garbage trapped in a Pacific Ocean vortex and its effects on marine life, humans, and the environment as a whole. Throughout the film, scientists, activists, legislators, and celebrities weigh in on the effects of our society’s voracious consumption of disposable plastic on our oceans and, ultimately, our health. Popcorn will be served!!
